Problems that often occur with forensic data collection include incorrect collection processes. It is important that those collecting the data know what is actually accessible and usable, something that is not always the case. It is equally important that the “chain of evidence” is secured from the very beginning.

Are there any “court-approved” mobile forensic tools?

There is no such thing as a “court-approved” mobile forensic device or standard forensic tool certification applicable to the varying legal systems across the globe. In general, a forensic tool has to demonstrate that it is fit for purpose in each independent nation, state or local legal system where it is used.
