‘Not my kid’ and Safeguarding Children Online – a Conversation with Jen Hoey
On episode 11 of Forensic Fix, we have Jen Hoey joining us from Sydney, Australia.
Jen is a Parent Cyber Safety Consultant and Founder of ‘Not My Kid’. Her mission is to preserve childhood and keep all children safe from online child exploitation by empowering their parents through education.
Jen’s a mom of three, and she’s been going through challenges with her older kids online. One of the most challenging negative experiences was when her 9-year-old daughter got caught up with an online predator through a game. Living through that gave her some serious insight into the tough things kids and parents are navigating in this digital age. The experience led her to start Not My Kid and to work as a cyber safety consultant with parents who want to learn how to keep their children safe.
She’s completed numerous courses to back up her expertise, and she’s currently on the road to a degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice.
Now, true to her mission, Jen has her heart set on fighting against the epidemic of child exploitation online. It’s no light matter, but she’s all in.
