The National Observatory for Digital Forensics (ONIF) was born from the idea of a group of professionals in the sector and aims to promote the figure of the computer forensic as a subject who, following an adequate training course and experience in the field, expresses and applies specific technical skills in the context of the management of digital evidence in the legal field and aimed at an answer of scientific truth as objective as possible, in compliance with current procedures and regulations.

According to one of the most commonly used definitions, digital forensics means “the use of scientifically proven methods aimed at identifying, collecting, storing, validating, analyzing, interpreting, documenting and presenting sources of digital evidence in order to facilitate and promote the reconstruction of facts“.

The Observatory, in order to promote the recognition of the discipline and figure of the computer forensic at national level, also in support of the performance of the profession, intends to develop activities by defining the characteristics of the professional in the sector and working in working groups for the pursuit of specific objectives.
