Import data
Import data sources to XAMN to see extracted data from different devices side by side.
Note: To import data sources, you must open a case in XAMN.
When you import a data source to XAMN, the data is saved as an .xry file in the case folder of the open case.
When a new data source is imported, the case Overview page automatically notifies you that additional content is available.
When you import an .xry file to XAMN, the file is added to the case folder and activated in the case.
There is no additional decoding during the import of .xry files.
Import .xry files
- Open a case.
- In the ribbon menu, click the Import button.
- Select Import XRY.
- Select the file to import.
- Click Open to import the file.
When you import a binary file into XAMN, the binary data is encapsulated in an .xry file.
There is no additional decoding during the import of binary files.
Import binary files
- Open a case.
- In the ribbon menu, click the Import button.
- From the drop-down menu, select Import Binary.
- Select the file to import.
- Click Open to import the file.

You can import call data records from mobile phone operators to include them in the comparative analysis. Imported records can be formatted with a format template, or you can give them a custom formatting.
When you import a data source to XAMN, the data is saved as an .xry file in the case folder of the open case.
Supported call data record formats include
- Excel (.xls) files
- Excel (.xlsx) files
CDR import with cell tower name and ID
Map the cell tower ID and cell tower name to artifact properties, when importing Call Data Record (CDR) files from the network provider.
Import Call Data Records
To import call data records and manually apply a column format, do the following:
- Open a case.
- In the ribbon menu, in the Case group, click the Import button and select Import CDR/Data set.
- In the Import CDR/Data set dialog, on the Select source file page, click Browse.
- In the Open dialog, browse to the file you want to import, and then click Open.
- Click Next.
- On the Select header row page, select the row that contains the column headers. If you want to clear the selection, click Clear the header row value. Then, click Next.
- On the Data Selection page, select the starting row of the CDR data. If you want to clear the selection, click Clear the start row value. Then click Next.
- On the Select end row page, select the ending row of the CDR data. If you want to clear the selection, click Clear the end row value. Then, click Next.
You can also click Next without selecting a row, if you want to import all remaining columns. - On the Data formatting page, set the data format for each column, and then click Import.

On the Import page, if you want to save the import settings as a new format template, select the Save mapping as a template to quickly map similar data sets later check box, and then type a name for the new format template.
Note: If you click Save mapping as a template... check box, you must enter a name for the new format template. Otherwise the error message "is 0" occurs, and you have to repeat the CDR import.
- Click Finish.
Import Call Data Records and apply an existing column format template
- Open a case.
- In the ribbon, in the Case group, tab, click the Import button, select Import CDR/Data set.
- In the Import CDR/Data set dialog, on the Select source file page, click Browse.
- In the Open dialog, browse to the file to import, and click Open.
- Select the Use a template check box.
- In the list of templates, select the template to use and then click Next.
- Click Finish.

Import Encase E01, L01, and S01 files to XAMN. If the files are split in several files, for example E01, E02, and E03, place them in the same folder to import them to the same .xry file.
Note: To import more than one E01 file, for example fileA.E01, fileA.E02, fileB.E01, and fileB.E02, put the fileA files and the fileB files in different folders and import them separately.
Import E01 files
- Open a case.
- In the ribbon menu, click the Import button.
- From the drop-down menu, select Import E01.
- Click Browse..., select the folder containing the files to import, and click Select folder.
- Click OK.
With the Media/docs import, you can import files of any file format. This makes it possible to add media files, such as pictures, and documents, such as PDF files, to your case.
Note: If you are importing a file in a format for which there is a dedicated import option, for example if you’re importing an extraction created using a third-party extraction tool, use the dedicated option instead of this generic one.
The import puts all files which are placed in the folder you import in an .xry file.
Import media files and documents
- Open a case.
- In the ribbon menu, click the Import button.
- From the drop-down menu, select Import media/docs.
- Click Browse..., select the folder containing the files to import, and click Select folder.
- Click OK.

You can import Raven files into XAMN.
Import Raven files into XAMN
- Open a case.
- In the ribbon menu, click the Import button.
- From the drop-down menu, select Import Raven.
- Browse to the location where the file is stored.
- Click OK.
View the imported log
On the Data sources page, click View imported log. The imported log contains log messages from the original Raven extraction, whereas the extraction log contains log output from the import process.

With the Cellebrite import, you can import .ufdr, .ufdx, and .clbx files to XAMN.
Import Cellebrite files
- Open a case.
- In the ribbon menu, click the Import button.
- From the Drop-down menu, select Import Cellebrite.
- Select the Extraction type.
- Browse to the location where the file is stored. Make sure that there is only one file of the selected extraction type in the folder.
- Click OK.
Note: If XRY is or has previously been installed on the same machine as the XAMN installation, the import settings from XRY are used. If no XRY installation has been available on the same machine, the default settings are used. The import settings cannot be changed in XAMN.
With the data protection laws, users of online services can ask for a copy of all personal data that is registered about them at that company. This type of data can sometimes be useful in a criminal investigation. The personal data for Snapchat, Google Takeout, and Apple can be imported to XAMN.
Import personal data
- Open a case.
- In the ribbon menu, click the Import button.
- Select Import personal data.
- Select the relevant app.
- Click Browse..., select the folder containing the user data, and click Select folder.
- Click OK.

The Berla iVe import in XAMN makes it possible to import vehicle data, extracted using Berla iVe. This data includes what locations the vehicle has visited and the recorded speed, but also vehicle events like when the doors have been opened or closed and what mobile devices that have been connected to the vehicle's entertainment system.
Importing the vehicle data to XAMN is useful to view vehicle data side by side with data from a mobile device, or to view the data from multiple vehicles at the same time.
When imported, the data for the vehicle represented in the Berla .ivo file is stored in one .xry file.
The information about the devices that have been connected to the vehicle's entertainment system is shown in the Other devices category in XAMN. The other artifacts are shown in the expected categories, for example calls in the Calls category and location data in Places.
Import vehicle data
- Place the vehicle data file in a folder. The file must be in the .ivo format.
- Open a case.
- In the ribbon menu, click the Import button and select Import Berla iVe.
- Click Browse... and select the folder that contains the file to import.
- Click Open to import the file.
- Click OK.

You can import Magnet/Grayshift files into XAMN.
Import Magnet/Grayshift files
- In the ribbon menu, click the Import button.
- From the drop-down menu, select Import Magnet/Grayshift.
- Select extraction type and browse to the location where the file is stored.
- Click OK.
Note: If XRY is or has previously been installed on the same machine as the XAMN installation, the import settings from XRY are used. If no XRY installation has been available on the same machine, the default settings are used. The import settings cannot be changed in XAMN.

Import KML files into XAMN
- Open a case.
- In the ribbon menu, click the Import button.
- From the drop-down menu, select Import KML.
- Browse to the location where the file is stored.
- Click OK.

Import V2 Forensics files into XAMN
- Open a case.
- In the ribbon menu, click the Import button.
- From the drop-down menu, select Import V2 Forensics.
- Browse to the location where the file is stored.
- Click OK.

Import DAT files into XAMN
- Open a case.
- In the ribbon menu, click the Import button.
- From the drop-down menu, select Import DAT.
- Browse to the location where the file is stored.
- Click OK.

Import iOS FFS extraction files created using the Elcomsoft tool into XAMN.
Import Elcomsoft iOS FFS files into XAMN
- Open a case.
- In the ribbon menu, click the Import button.
- From the drop-down menu, select Import Elcomsoft iOS FFS.
- Browse to the location where the file is stored.
- Click OK.

Import iOS data extracted using the Oxygen tool into XAMN. The file format is .ofbx.
Import Oxygen files into XAMN
- Open a case.
- In the ribbon menu, click the Import button.
- From the drop-down menu, select Import Oxygen.
- Browse to the location where the file is stored.
- Click OK.
To activate the data source after import, do the following:
- On the Overview page, under Notifications, a message is shown that new files have appeared in the case folder. Click Resolve to go to the Data sources page.
- On the Data sources page, click Activate this source to activate the new file in the case. This will make the new .xry file available in the Data sources pane on the Overview page.
