Share your findings

When the extracted data has been reviewed in XAMN, the next step is usually to share your findings with people within your organization, or with prosecutors or others externally. There are some different ways of doing that, depending on what their needs are, and on what you want to share.

Procedures

Prepare to share your findings

Tag the evidence

Use tags to mark artifacts which are of interest to the investigation. The tags can then be used as a basis for selecting what artifacts to include in an report or export.

See Tags for more information.

Add examiner notes

Examiner notes are a good way to add comments to artifacts. This can be for example personal comments related to the observation you've made of a specific artifact. The examiner notes can be included in reports and exports, to be shared with others.

See Examiner notes for more information.

Redact sensitive information

Redaction of data is useful when there's a case with sensitive data or data that for legal purposes cannot be visible, for example communication between a suspect and their lawyer. The redaction is done for individual properties of an artifact. This makes it possible to redact for example the message text from a chat message while keeping other metadata of the artifact. Redacted property values are masked.

If needed, it's possible to exclude complete artifacts. This is done by adding a dedicated tag to these artifacts, and then selecting to exclude artifacts with that tag using the Exclude option.

When sharing data, regardless of if it's done with a subset or in reports or exports, redacted or excluded data is not included.

See Redact sensitive data and Exclude artifacts for more information.

Share your findings with others

Save a subset of the case

A common way to share data is to save a subset of the case, only including the artifacts that are of relevance. Before doing so, you can redact any properties that contain information that for legal or regulatory purposes cannot be shared.

The subset can be opened by the receiver in the free XAMN Viewer tool.

See Save subset for more information.

Create reports in Report Builder

With the Report Builder in XAMN, you can build your own reports by using the available report blocks. The Report Builder provides a high level of customization when it comes to structure, content, and styling.

In the Report Builder, you can create report templates which help you create standardized reports that fulfill the requirements of your organization and for different purposes.

See Report Builder for more information.

Create reports

XAMN also contains a number of standard reports, in formats such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and PDF. The standard reports are to some extent customizable when it comes to content and layout. They are useful when you need a quick report, and there is no need for the report to be customized to the unique requirements of your organization.

See Report formats for more information.

Export data for further analysis in other tools

In some situations, there might be a need to analyze the data further in other tools. That's when all the available export formats in XAMN come into play.

See Export formats for more information.
