Use keyboard shortcuts

The available keyboard shortcuts can make the every-day use of XAMN much more efficient.

XAMN comes with a default profile of keyboard shortcuts, but you can create your own profile and customize which key combinations that are used for each keyboard shortcuts. To use your customized profile on multiple installations of XAMN, you can export it and then import it on the other installations.

Prerequisites

  • The default keyboard shortcut profile is available to all XAMN users, including XAMN Viewer users.
  • To set up customized keyboard shortcut profiles, you must have an XAMN Pro license.

Procedures

Show an overview of available keyboard shortcuts

There are two ways to access the keyboard shortcut overview.

  • Select the keyboard shortcut for opening the keyboard shortcut overview. In the default profile, this is Ctrl + ?.
  • In the ribbon menu, click Help and select Keyboard shortcut overview.

Edit keyboard shortcuts

  1. Open the keyboard shortcut manager. This can be done in two ways.

    • Select the keyboard shortcut for opening the keyboard shortcut manager. In the default profile, this is Ctrl + . (the period key).
    • In the ribbon menu, click Help, select Keyboard shortcut overview, and then select Edit shortcuts....

  2. Select an existing profile to edit or create a new profile.

    • To select an existing profile, in the Active profile dropdown, select the profile to use.

      Note: The default profile cannot be edited.

    • To create a new profile, click More options and select Create new profile.

  3. Select the check boxes for the keyboard shortcuts to include in your profile.

  4. To change the key combination for a keyboard shortcut
    1. Select the key combination box.
    2. On your keyboard, select the key combination you want to use.

  5. Click Save.

Note:
  • Some specific key combinations are blocked, for example to not cause conflicts with keyboard shortcuts in Windows.
  • The Alt key can only be used for keyboard shortcuts together with other modifiers. Key combinations with just the Alt key and a number or character are reserved for adding tags.

Export keyboard shortcuts

  1. Open the keyboard shortcut manager. This can be done in two ways.

    • Select the keyboard shortcut for opening the keyboard shortcut manager. In the default profile, this is Ctrl + . (the period key).
    • In the ribbon menu, click Help, select Keyboard shortcut overview, and then select Edit shortcuts....
  2. Click More options and select Export profiles.
  3. Select to which folder to export the profiles, and click Select folder.
  4. All customized profiles are saved in the selected folder, and can be imported to other XAMN installations.

Import keyboard shortcuts

  1. Open the keyboard shortcut manager. This can be done in two ways.

    • Select the keyboard shortcut for opening the keyboard shortcut manager. In the default profile, this is Ctrl + . (the period key).
    • In the ribbon menu, click Help, select Keyboard shortcut overview, and then select Edit shortcuts....
  2. Click More options and select Import profile.
  3. Browse to the folder where the profile is saved, select the profile to import, and click Open.
  4. If needed, enter a new Profile name.
  5. Click OK. The imported profile is now selected as the active profile.
