Work with the filters in the Filter pane
The Filter pane is where most of the filters in XAMN are located.
By default, the filters operate as AND type filters. This means that if more than one filter is selected in the Filters pane, the artifacts that fulfill all the conditions set by the selected filters are shown in the Artifacts pane.
To the right of each filter condition, the count of artifacts that fulfill this condition is shown. When a filter is selected, the number of artifacts for each filter condition is updated based on the active selection.
In Options, there are two settings related to the Filters pane.
- Automatically show the Categories filter expanded. This means that the sub-categories in the Categories filter are visible when you open a new tab.
- Disable the dynamic artifact count. This means that the count for each filter condition is not updated based on the active selection.
Prerequisites
- Some filters require the XAMN Pro license. See All filters for more information.
Procedures
Apply a filter condition
- Click a filter condition to apply it. The applied filter conditions are shown with a colored background.
Apply multiple filter conditions
There are two ways to apply more than one filter condition.
There are different ways to clear the filter selection.
- To clear all applied filter conditions, click the Clear filter selection button
at the top of the Filters pane. - To clear all filter conditions for a filter, click the Edit filter button
for that filter and select Clear selections. - To clear one selected filter condition, click it again. The filter condition is now no longer applied.
When you set a filter to exclude, it works the opposite way from what it normally does. Artifacts that fulfill the selected filter conditions are excluded from the results instead of included. Filters set to exclude are labeled "(Exclude)".
Note: The Categories, Data sources, Locations, and Time filters cannot be set to exclude.
Add filters to the filter pane to provide additional ways to find what you are looking for. See All filters for information about all the available filters.
- In the Filters pane, click the Add filter button.
- In the Add a new filter window, select the filter to add and click OK.
- Some of the filters require further input, for example setting up filter conditions or importing a file. Follow the instructions in the interface.
- In the Details pane, right-click a property and select Create filter.
- Select to open the filter In this tab or In a new tab. The filter is added to the Filters pane and is automatically applied.
The created filter contains all values available in the case for that property.
The artifacts in the filter result can be added to a report, saved as a separate case, or exported to the format that you choose.
