Managing identified face IDs

Apple iOS has built-in advanced face identification technology that can be used on media files. This technology allows iOS users to quickly locate all the picture or video files of a person. XRY decodes this information, making it easy to find identified faces in media files in XAMN.

Procedures

Locate media files using face identification

Each Identified face ID uniquely identifies a person. You can search in the Files & Media category for an identified face ID of a specific person. You might find media files in both Pictures and Videos categories.

To find artifacts that contain an identified face, do the following:

  1. Open the XRY file and select the Files & Media category.
  2. Find a picture or a video file of a person.
  3. In the Details pane, right-click the iOS identified face ID property and select Create filter.

Assign an identified face to a person

You can assign an identified face ID artifact to a person in your case.

Only applicable on files extracted with XRY v10.0 or later.

Note: The Persons functionality is available when you work in a case file, with one or more data sources.

Do the following:

  1. Open the XRY file and select the Files & Media category.
  2. Find a picture or a video file of a person.
  3. In the Details pane, select the iOS identified face ID hyperlink. The unique identifier ID is the default name.
  4. In the Person dialog, select Join with person.
  5. Enter the person name or select a person from the list.
  6. Click OK.

Highlight identified faces

You can highlight the identified person(s) by hovering over the face on the picture that includes an identified person. The added name (if any) and the identified face unique ID is displayed. Click the square icon in the picture viewer to activate or deactivate the highlight feature.
